  • A key driver behind the euro’s creation was to act as a counterweight to the dollar,

This is false. The reason for the Euro was to make trade easier between EU countries, and to have a more stable currency than countries could provide individually. stable currency and stable economy are tied, and fundamental for economic growth.
It was an extension of decades of cooperation since the 70’s between the national banks of EU (EEC) to stabilize European currencies against each other.

The Euro is also part of the free movement policy of EU, and a crucial part of the open market, making it easier to trade across borders as individuals too.

Seems to me the USD has been slowly dethroning itself for a couple of decades now.
To be a good reserve currency requires stability, and USA started the financial crisis in 2008, and is now starting their very own recession.
The USD is already not as almighty as it used to be. But the Euro isn’t quick to take over either.
International reserve currency is already somewhat fragmented, and we will probably see more fragmentation between Yuan, Euro and USD. With USD losing ground and the others gaining.

  • Because they are driving under near ideal conditions, in areas that are completely mapped out, and guided away from roadworks and avoiding “confusing” crosses, and other traffic situations like unmarked roads, that humans deal with routinely without problem.
And in a situation they can’t handle, they just stop and call and wait for a human driver to get them going again, disregarding if they are blocking traffic.

I’m not blaming Waymo for doing it as safe as they can, that’s great IMO.
But don̈́t make it sound like they drive better than humans yet. There is still some ways to go.

What’s really obnoxious is that Elon Musk claimed this would be 100% ready by 2017. Full self driving, across America, day and night, safer than a human. I have zero expectation that Tesla RoboTaxi will arrive this summer as promised.

  • Nobody at Tesla headquarters voted to alienate their customer base. No board meeting decided to turn their electric car company into a political lightning rod.

This is technically not true. The board keeps Elon Musk on as CEO of Tesla, and they granted him the biggest bonus package ever, while he was already very controversial and clearly was losing his mind, because they thought he would be able to make them money.
